The Features of GIGABYTE Immersion Tank

Provides more than 5 times the cooling capacity within the same rack dense, freeing up space to accommodate the use of faster computing components that generate more heats in the future.

To submerge the server in a cooling fluid that removes heat by directly coming into contact with the heating elements, GIGABYTE had to evaluate how the chemical composition of the coolant may affect the components, avoiding unexpected chemical reactions due to the coolant. Through theory and experimental experience, we perfected the design and will continue to explore optimal materials that are suitable for immersion cooling.

  • Electricity Safety Design
    • The pump is specially designed for overcurrent protection to avoid pump overheating
    • The power system is equipped with a safety fuseless switch, which can avoid overcurrent and improve the safety of system operation
  • Redundant Safety Design
    • Dual pump redundant design. When one of the pumps fails to run due to failure, the system will starts the backup pump immediately to continue cooling and inform the users
    • The electric control panel adopts dual cooling fan design, which can quickly reduce the temperature of electric control components and increase the operating life
  • Sensor Safety Design
    • Sysem detects and inform users when malfunctioning sensors provide extreme values
    • Liquid level gauge notifies the user to replenish coolant in time to maintain efficient cooling and continuous service operation
    • When any sensor fails, the cooling pump automatically switches to high-speed operation mode to prevent continuously rising system temperature from causing the server to overheat, and the system will also notify the user for system maintenance
  • Manufactured from components with a 10-year life, including capacitors and cooling fans
  • Dual pump redundant design allows the pumps to work alternately, evenly distributing the workload and extending the life of the pumps
  • The tank is designed with a filtration system, which can set the cooling liquid filtration cycle to prevent foreign matters from contaminating the product. Users can adjust the filtration cycle depending on the environment to reduce the loss of heat dissipation capability during the filtration process.

GIGABYTE single-phase immersion solution reduces the need of massive cooling system for computer facilities and removing unnecessary fans required for traditional air-cooling servers, drastically lowering PUE to 1.02. Comparing a PUE of 1.65 for traditional air-cooled data centers, GIGABYTE single-phase immersion solution effectively saves unnecessary power consumption. Which helps companies achieving the goal of being environmentally friendly but at the same time reducing the massive cost on electricity supply.

GIGABYTE immersion tank has gone through multiple tests and was compared to the traditional air-cooling solution results. In the widely-used Linpack test representing the performance in linear algebra computation, the single-phase solution achieved a slight advantage of 0.7% in scoring. With the improved heat dissipation capability, the CPU temperature was greatly reduced by 16-20 degrees Celsius. It allows GIGABYTE immersion servers to run at full load with much less fluctuations in frequency, providing a more stable alternative in high performance computing.

The system automatically adjusts heat dissipation rate to minimize the fluctuations of temperature while reducing system electricity consumption with an inverter. Reaching the perfect balance between lowering temperature and conserving energy. The inverter also meets multiple safety standards for additional protection.
