¿Qué es el almacenamiento all-flash?

El almacenamiento all-flash es un sistema de almacenamiento que utiliza únicamente unidades de estado sólido (SSD) para almacenar datos. También se conoce como cabina all-flash (AFA). En lugar de unidades de disco duro (HDD) tradicionales, utiliza SSD SATA, SAS o NVMe como dispositivos de almacenamiento principales.

A diferencia de los HDD, los SSD no utilizan componentes mecánicos móviles para acceder a los datos. Como resultado, ofrecen menor latencia, más operaciones de entrada/salida por segundo (IOPS), mayor densidad de almacenamiento y menor consumo de energía. Un sistema de almacenamiento all-flash combina varios SSD para proporcionar almacenamiento centralizado a servidores y aplicaciones.

¿Por qué es necesario el almacenamiento all-flash?

Las aplicaciones de inteligencia artificial, análisis de datos, bases de datos, servicios en la nube y virtualización necesitan procesar grandes volúmenes de datos rápidamente. Las unidades HDD tradicionales pueden convertirse en un cuello de botella para el rendimiento, mientras que el almacenamiento all-flash permite un acceso más rápido a los datos y reduce los tiempos de respuesta de las aplicaciones.

Las unidades HDD pueden seguir siendo más rentables para los datos a los que se accede con poca frecuencia o que se almacenan durante largos periodos. Las empresas pueden elegir almacenamiento all-flash, híbrido o basado en HDD tradicionales según sus necesidades de rendimiento y capacidad, así como su presupuesto.
