Zócalo del procesador

¿Qué es?

También conocido como ranura para CPU, el zócalo de CPU se utiliza para conectar un microprocesador a una tarjeta de circuito impreso (PCB) sin necesidad de soldadura, lo que facilita la instalación o el reemplazo de la CPU en la tarjeta madre. Los zócalos de CPU se encuentran comúnmente en computadoras y servidores, y son lo opuesto a las CPU de montaje superficial que se utilizan en laptops, las cuales ahorran espacio a costa de dificultar su instalación o reemplazo.

Entre los tipos más comunes de zócalos de CPU se encuentran el Pin Grid Array (PGA) y el Land Grid Array (LGA). La diferencia entre ambos es que el PGA coloca los pines en el procesador y los orificios en el zócalo, mientras que el LGA tiene los pines en el zócalo, sobre los que se coloca el procesador. La cantidad y disposición de los pines varían según el tipo de CPU utilizado, pero, en términos generales, una mayor cantidad y densidad de pines permite transferir más señales de datos a mayor velocidad.

¿Por qué es necesario?

Dado que el socket del CPU conecta el cerebro del servidor —el CPU— con todos los demás componentes, no es posible operar sin él. Además, algunos sockets de CPU pueden parecer físicamente idénticos, pero ser eléctricamente incompatibles. Por lo tanto, no debes cambiar los procesadores únicamente porque utilicen el mismo tipo de socket; asegúrate siempre de que el socket sea compatible con los CPUs para los que fue diseñado.

¿Cómo ayuda GIGABYTE?

Cada servidor está equipado con sockets de CPU compatibles con sus procesadores.
