CDU

  • What is it?
Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) is an essential component in liquid cooling systems that distribute coolant or water evenly throughout the system. The CDU regulates and controls the flow of coolant, maintaining the desired temperature and flow rate. It works in conjunction with pumps, radiators, heat exchangers, and control units to ensure the cooling system runs smoothly and efficiently. There are different types of CDUs with unique features such as sensors, monitors, and flow control valves. The CDU also helps keep the system clean by removing impurities from the coolant, preventing clogging and damage to other components in the system. Overall, the CDU plays a critical role in maintaining the proper functioning of liquid cooling systems.

  • Why do you need it?
If you are using a liquid cooling system, you need a CDU to maintain the proper functioning of the system.

The CDU helps to regulate the flow of coolant in the cooling system, maintaining the desired temperature and flow rate. By distributing the coolant evenly throughout the system, the CDU provides the necessary cooling to all system components, ensuring that they remain within safe operating temperatures, protecting the system from exceeding its intended TDP, and preventing overheating and damage to hardware.

In addition, the CDU works in conjunction with other components of the cooling system to ensure that the system operates efficiently. It maintains consistent coolant flow, reducing the load on other system components and increasing the efficiency of the entire system. This translates to better performance and longevity for your cooling system.

Furthermore, the CDU is equipped with filters that remove impurities from the coolant, preventing clogging and damage to other components in the system. By keeping the coolant clean, the CDU helps to extend the life of the entire cooling system, reducing maintenance costs in the long run.

  • How is GIGABYTE helpful?
GIGABYTE has partnered with liquid cooling technology leader CoolIT Systems to offer their DLC (Direct Liquid Cooling) system as a standard option for H262 Series High-Density Server. This server uses Passive Cold Plate Loops and Rack Manifold to remove all the heat from the rack and provides circulating power through a CDU. This allows the warm water output from the secondary side of the CDU to undergo direct heat exchange outside the server.

Within the server, high-power components such as CPU, GPU, Memory, and high-speed network cards are cooled through liquid cooling components, helping customers' data centers significantly reduce TCO, energy consumption, and noise, while achieving system efficiency optimization.
