Quality Components Make Quality Motherboards
Aug 29, 2007

Taipei, Taiwan, August 29, 2007 – GIGABYTE UNITED INC., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards today is pleased to extend their Ultra Durable 2 design to include support for the entire range of Intel® 3 Series chipsets, including motherboards featuring the highly anticipated Intel® X38 chipset.

GIGABYTE Intel® 3 Series-based Motherboards Series Adopt Ultra Durable 2 Technology
Providing the most complete range of top-to-bottom solutions to satisfy PC enthusiasts and general users alike, GIGABYTE is now offering Ultra Durable 2 equipped motherboards for the entire Intel® 3 Series chipset family including: X38/P35/G35/G33/P31/G31.

In addition to using All Solid Lower ESR Capacitors to provide enhanced system stability and ensuring a longer component lifespan, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards feature Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs, delivering lower power consumption during the switching process, resulting in a faster switching process and less heat generation. In addition, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards utilize higher quality Ferrite Chokes, whose properties hold energy much longer than common iron-core chokes at high frequency, providing reduced core energy loss and lower EMI interference for extended system reliability.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards are setting the industry standard with their unmatched performance, durability and flexibility, with options including support for both DDR3, DDR2 and combination motherboards with both DDR3 and DDR2 memory support. In addition, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards are quipped with the GIGABYTE propriety Silent-Pipe thermal technology as well as the built-in high-definition 7.1 + 2 channel Realtek ALC889A sound chip, whose 106dB signal-to-noise ratio significantly reduces noise during signal transmission and supports both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats for an exhilarating home theater entertainment experience.

"By utilizing higher quality, more expensive components in our Ultra Durable and Ultra Durable2 motherboard designs, we have been able to significantly raise the bar in terms of the stability, reliability and performance we are able to offer our customers," according to Richard Chen, Vice President of Research and Development at GIGABYTE UNITED, INC. "And this is only just the beginning, as we are already planning some exiting new innovations for our next generation Ultra Durable Technology."

GIGABYTE Introduces World's First All Solid Capacitor Motherboards
In 2006, Intel launched their P965 chipset, adding many new advancements over previous generations including enhanced memory performance, improved responsiveness, increased power efficiency and extended data protection. Wanting to best take advantage of these benefits, GIGABYTE developed their P965 motherboards using the design philosophy that better components make a better motherboard, and GIGABYTE Ultra Durable Technology was born.

Featuring an All Solid Capacitor design, GIGABYTE P965 motherboards are able to provide extended stability and durability, a six times longer lifespan and have eliminated the problem of bursting capacitors which can happen on conventional motherboards using electrolytic capacitors. Furthering their industry lead, GIGABYTE quickly extended their Ultra Durable line to include Intel 945P motherboards as well.

GIGABYTE's Latest Ultra Durable 2 Technology
GIGABYTE "All-Solid Capacitors" motherboards have gained great popularity in the market and have become the first choice for computer DIY enthusiasts. While the competitors are still playing catch up, GIGABYTE has now gone a step further by releasing Ultra Durable 2 series motherboards, which adopt more advanced components including Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs, Ferrite Core Chokes and Lower ESR Solid Capacitors.

Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs – Ultra Cooling

A MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) is a switch that allows or stops electric current to pass through an electric circuit. If the CPU is requesting power, the MOSFET acts as an "on" switch and allows the power to travel through the power circuit. If the power circuit is in a discharge state, the MOSFET will then act as an "off" switch, stopping the current so the circuit can discharge the power in the system before additional current is allowed to pass through.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards utilize Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs. These differ from regular MOSFETS in that they are specially designed to produce lower switching resistance and utilize lower power consumption. The result is faster electric current charging and discharging and less heat generation.

Ferrite Core Choke Design – Low Power Loss

If the MOSFET is in the "on" state, the current will then flow to the choke. A choke is an inductor that stores energy and regulates current. Choke coils help to prevent Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) from the power supply from interfering with the power circuit.

Instead of using the traditional iron core chokes, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 2 motherboards feature Ferrite Chokes that are comprised of a compound of iron-oxide and other metal elements. These metal properties hold energy much longer than common iron-core chokes at high frequency, resulting in lower power loss.

All Solid Capacitors – Longer Life

From the choke, the current then passes through a capacitor. The capacitor stores electricity and delivers it to the component requiring power such as the CPU.

GIGABYTE uses all Japanese manufactured Solid Capacitors to deliver maximum stability, reliability and longer system lifetime for general PC usage as well as for improved overclocking performance.
