Half the Thickness & Half the Weight 2020 All-new Gaming Notebook with a Mechanical Keyboard

by GIGABYTE
This year, 2020, Gigabyte Notebook brought mechanical keyboards back into play and is dedicated to making notebooks more compact than ever while being a pleasure to touch and use and is half the weight and half the thickness.
Mechanical keyboards offer better tactile feedback and faster signal registration, yet can hardly be found on notebooks due to its thickness and high price.
The notebook market has in recent years, become the ultimate battleground for major notebook manufacturers. Every year, new models come out with the latest and fastest CPUs and graphics cards. However, regardless of CPU and monitor upgrades, players who emphasize the feeling for the hands are always disappointed by notebook keyboards. But not anymore! This year, 2020, with the new Intel 10th Gen Core CPU and NVIDIA RTX Super came on the market, some manufacturers brought mechanical keyboards back into play and is dedicated to making notebooks more compact than ever while being a pleasure to touch and use and is half the weight and half the thickness.
Due to keyboard mechanical switch’s rather complicated mechanisms, it is difficult to shrink its size and maintain the quality at the same time, and small components also make mass production challenging and expensive. AORUS partners with Omron and spent 3 years creating B3KL low profile clicky switch, a uniquely designed keyboard switch that is exclusive to AORUS’s pro gaming notebooks.
Previous efforts in building a compact notebook have mainly revolved around implementing membrane keyboards. This has resulted in unideal keyboard feedback and failure rates that gamers who value the gaming experience despise. Some even purchase separate mechanical keyboards and forgo notebook keyboards altogether.

Why are the current mechanical keyboard notebooks pricey and not commonly seen on the market? Aside from its expensive price, mechanical keyboards utilize independent mechanical parts (switch) in order to maintain tactile feel and accelerate signal transmission. An external mechanical keyboard normally adopts a key travel distance of 3mm to 4mm, and provides feedback that a membrane keyboard with key travel distance of only 2mm will never be able to match. That is why mechanical keyboards are relatively thick and heavy, weighing around 1.5 kg, and this is another reason why notebook manufacturers are reluctant to produce mechanical keyboard notebooks. It was not until 2015 that manufacturers started producing mechanical keyboard notebooks. The result was a 4.56 kg, 5mm thick notebook that cost a fortune.

AORUS 15G is world’s lightest gaming notebook featuring true mechanical keyboard, carrying premium performance, mechanical keyboard and high refresh rate screen, yet is still portable.
As a professional manufacturer that pays attention to detail, GIGABYTE set out to find a solution. By partnering with world-renowned Japanese mechanical switches provider – OMRON, GIGABYTE creates the AORUS 17X, AORUS 17G, and AORUS 15G, pro gaming notebooks that carry true mechanical keyboards yet still portable. The AORUS notebook keyboard features an optimal 2.5mm key travel distance and a sensational clicky tactile feel. With the actuation point at relatively shorter 1.6mm key travel distance, the register speed of AORUS notebook keyboard is 20% faster compared to those of normal notebook keyboards, giving users a crucial in-game advantage. The AORUS 15G weighs only 2.2 kg and is 2.5 cm thick, which is 51% lighter than other notebooks carrying mechanical keyboards and is 50% thinner. As the world’s lightest and most compact mechanical keyboard notebook, the AORUS 15G aims to be a true professional and portable gaming notebook.
The all-new AORUS 17X, AORUS 17G and AORUS 15G are light and compact, yet does not make compromises when it comes to performance. Equipped with 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i9 CPU, NVIDIA® RTX 2080 SUPER™, 240Hz refresh rate display, international tournament standard display specifications, and GIGABYTE’s exclusive WINDFORCE Infinity cooling technology, AORUS lets gamers experience gaming in the highest graphic settings. With over 8 hours of battery life and a complete set of I/O ports, AORUS notebooks are prized by even top tier esports teams – G2 Esports. AORUS has set new standards for high-end professional gaming notebooks!

0 to 100 KPH in 3.3 Seconds! NTHU Builds Electric Formula Student Race Cars with GIGABYTE

Representing Hsinchu’s Tsing Hua University, NTHU Racing is one of Taiwan’s top Formula Student racing teams. In 2019, its electric formula student race car, the “TH04”, took second place in Formula SAE Japan. In August of 2022, its new and improved, 100% manufactured in Taiwan “TH06” raced for the gold in Formula Student Germany. Tsing Hua University built the “TH06” using GIGABYTE Technology’s W771-Z00 and W331-Z00 Tower Server/Workstation products. From finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and analysis during the design phase, to racing simulations and experimenting with new tech during the testing phase, GIGABYTE servers provided NTHU Racing with the processing power and versatility it needed to engineer a high-performing electric vehicle that can go from 0 to 100 kph in 3.3 seconds—almost on par with Tesla’s Model S, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.
