Ampere® Altra® Server Solutions

Join the Migration to the Cloud

Adding Ampere's Altra processor, using Arm, to GIGABYTE's server portfolio offers another platform choice besides x86. Ampere® Altra® offers greater performance and power-efficiency, and fits easily into GIGABYTE's server design. The new evolution in chip design allows for greater performance at lower TCO because the same amount of jobs will done with less nodes. Also, as server workflow continues to evolve, a system can be easily adapted to support new demands.

[FAQ] - What memory configurations are supported in the new Ampere® Altra® based servers?

Speeds up to 3200MHz are supported, and RDIMM and LRDIMM modules up to 256GB each. A single socket server can have a memory capacity of 4TB using 256GB modules.

[FAQ] - What drives are supported in the new Ampere® Altra® servers?

GIGABYTE offers a wide range of product options with severs that have support for 3.5" & 2.5" HDD/SSD and hybrid NVMe U.2 drives.
With GIGABYTE's superior design, the servers we produce outperform the competition. Thanks to the flexible design of the M.2 expansion slots on the server motherboard, the OS data caching design allows the entire group of drives to easily form a single RAID Group. Thus, it increases the flexibility of storage capacity configurations and allows drives to be dedicated to data access and protection. GIGABYTE servers' HDD/SSD bays also feature a tool-less design that avoids the need for tools in order to install drives.

[FAQ] - What PCIe specifications are supported by these Ampere® Altra® servers?

Ampere® Altra® processors support the latest and best throughput with PCIe Gen 4.0 speeds. In addition, there are 128 PCIe lanes in a single socket server, and 192 PCIe lanes in a dual socket server. It must be noted that, per socket, the processor supports a maximum of 4 GPUs.

[FAQ] - What OS software is supported on these Ampere Altra servers?

64bit Linux. And all the distros one would expect: Ubuntu v18.04 LTS & 20.04 LTS, Debian v10.4, Suse SLES v SLES15 SP2 & SP3, CentOs v8, RHeL v8.3, and Oracle Linux v7.9 & 8.0
However, there is no support for Linux 32.
