What is DisplayPort?
DisplayPort standard put forth by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) which has the ability to directly drive the panel in a manner similar to the old analog-based monitor. Some people might find it similar to HDMI but still have different in specification, especially when HDMI and DVI are based on Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) technology developed with higher expense because of the scalar and LVDS drivers required to drive the monitor panels.

Since DisplayPort can deliver high performance digital connectivity for virtually, it is not limited to PC market but has reached into the consumer market. The display interface of DisplayPort v 1.1a has micro-packet architecture over 1 – 4 lanes which embedded clocking at 1.6Gbits/sec and 2.7Gbits/sec per lane. A Enhance version of DisplayPort v1.2 supports even higher color range and Beyond Full HD Stereo support at 120Hz with greater performance and unique micro-packet architecture enable multiple monitor support over a single connector. Not to mention, it supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
