Containerized Data Center

What is a Containerized Data Center?

A Containerized Data Center is a type of prefabricated modular data center that integrates servers, storage, networking, cooling, and power systems into a standard shipping container. From the outside, it looks like a regular cargo container, but inside it’s a fully built IT environment designed for fast deployment, standardization, and high scalability, making it adaptable to a wide range of business needs.

As demand for AI and high performance computing continues to grow, companies are looking for faster deployment and greater scalability. With a modular design, containerized data centers can extend or supplement existing facilities, quickly boosting computing power and proving highly practical in scenarios such as edge computing, disaster recovery, and temporary projects.

Advantages of a Containerized Data Center

1. Prefabricated and Modular
All equipment and infrastructure—rack layout, power and network cabling, cooling systems, and testing—are completed in the factory. Once on-site, simply connect power and network, much faster than traditional data center construction methods.

2. Relocatable and Redeployable
Containerized data centers can be moved and transported easily, whether indoors, outdoors, or to overseas locations. They are especially useful in fields like defense, energy, or geological exploration, where high computing power is needed temporarily.

3. High Integration and Standardization
Compared to traditional facilities that require extensive on-site wiring and installation, containerized data centers are built under strict factory standards for consistent quality and fewer human errors. Expanding computing power is as simple as adding more modules, like stacking building blocks.

4. Lower Site Renovation and Construction Costs
A container module can be placed directly in existing spaces such as warehouses or factory floors, reducing the need for additional infrastructure like air conditioning, fire protection, and power distribution—lowering both upfront investment and construction complexity.

5. Fast Deployment –“Run First, Integrate Later”
For projects where the main data center isn’t finished yet, containerized modules can serve as a temporary computing solution, enabling faster rollout—perfect for time-sensitive projects.

How is GIGABYTE helpful?

GIGABYTE offers end-to-end data center services—from consultation, design, and deployment to maintenance—integrating computing hardware, management platforms, and cooling technologies to help businesses quickly build scalable and efficient environments.

With strong R&D capabilities, GIGABYTE has partnered with Japan’s telecom giant KDDI to create a containerized immersion cooling micro data center. This solution combines high-density servers with immersion liquid cooling to deliver powerful computing in a compact space, offering fast deployment and energy savings, especially suited for disaster response or regions with limited infrastructure.

Looking ahead, GIGABYTE will continue to work with industry partners and customers to drive high performance and sustainability in the data center ecosystem.
